The new issue, igloo 231, presents a feature dedicated to the Peter Barber Architects practice, built around an extensive interview with Phil Hamilton, conducted by Anda Zota. The dialogue explores the contemporary forms of housing proposed by the practice, the balance between proximity and privacy, as well as the role of architecture in reconstructing collective life, offering a critical and nuanced perspective on urban living. The discussion topics, illustrated through the six projects included in the feature, gain particular relevance today against the backdrop of the housing crisis and the reconfiguration of the discourse on urban quality of life.
Founded in 1990, Peter Barber Architects is today one of the most articulate voices in the debate on contemporary housing in the United Kingdom. Led by Peter Barber, alongside Phil Hamilton, Alice Brownfield, and Emma Kite, the practice has deliberately remained a compact structure. International recognition came with Donnybrook Quarter (2006), considered a turning point in British housing architecture, while subsequent projects such as Place, Edgewood Mews, Holmes Road Studios, and McGrath Road have consolidated a coherent direction built around fundamental architectural values.
Alongside this feature, the magazine continues its established editorial sections, bringing together projects from Romania and the international context in a diverse editorial journey focused on architecture, heritage, design, and travel.
